In this episode of the video podcast Espacios que Hablan, produced by U Interior Design, the guest was Jerónimo Maciá, founder of Veo Veo, a company dedicated to artisanal rugs with a sustainable, local, and deeply collaborative vision. During the conversation, Jerónimo shared not only his brand’s philosophy, but also how they integrate the work of designers into their collections.
One of the questions Laura asked him was: “How do you choose the designers who create your collection rugs?” Maciá’s answer revealed an approach that blends tradition, closeness, and openness to new creative voices.
“Well, there are several factors. We have, as I like to say, a go-to designer I mentioned earlier, who’s from Valencia, and from the very beginning he’s done our catalogs, our cards, everything,he’s worked with us.”
This key designer, who’s been working with them for years, has played a fundamental role in the visual and conceptual development of the brand. He was the one who shaped their Nurbs collection. But the company’s commitment to design doesn’t stop with a single collaboration.
“At one point, he created a collection, the Nurbs collection for us, it was the first one he did, and later on, he’s created several other collections.”
Over time, Veo Veo has also collaborated with other designers and studios, expanding their creative network. Maciá highlighted their partnership with díez+díez diseño, a Madrid-based studio with whom they developed the WiFi collection, another proposal that reinforced their avant-garde character.
But perhaps one of the most enriching experiences for the founder was participating in an educational project in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Madrid, where design, education, and business commitment came together:
“One project that I really loved, one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had, was the Ópera Prima collection we did with the Polytechnic University of Madrid.”
Another initiative with the Polytechnic University of Madrid involved launching a competition for students finishing their Interior Design degree. The challenge was to design rugs, five of which Veo Veo committed to producing.
“The Polytechnic University of Madrid offered us the chance to launch a contest for graduating Interior Design students, where they had to create five rugs that Veo Veo would then commit to producing.”
These kinds of initiatives not only position Veo Veo as a company open to young talent, but also reinforce their commitment to design as a driver of innovation and change.
The interview, full of stories and real-life examples, reminds us that collaborative design not only enriches the final product, but also strengthens the ties between the industry, established professionals, and the next generation.
