In the latest episode of our podcast “Espacios que Hablan”, Laura Huerta, Interior Design Director at U Interior Design, spoke with Antonio Guillamón, Senior Interior Designer at the studio, about one of the most exciting and challenging interior design projects of the year: the transformation of The Unexpected Ibiza Hotel.
An interior design project full of emotion and creative challenge
Antonio, who has been part of the U Interior Design team since 2016, describes his experience at the studio as “enriching, full of moments, of joy, of countless emotions”. That collective and creative spirit defines both the studio’s work and the redesign of this hotel in Ibiza. In Antonio’s words: “It’s been a huge effort, very enriching, but also very daring”.
U Interior Design’s project at The Unexpected Ibiza Hotel represented a true technical and conceptual challenge. The hotel brand has a strong and unique personality that blends luxury and fun. Capturing that quintessential Ibiza duality — the balance between luxury and spontaneity, calm and energy — became the central theme of the project.
Interior design with identity and a sensory experience
One of the most discussed aspects in the episode was the innovative lighting design. In the hotel’s corridors, for example, the team created an experience where light “followed” guests as they walked toward their rooms: “The beam of light would follow you along your path in the hallway… people started playing with it, jumping, moving it around…” This concept turns lighting into an interactive experience that connects directly with users — a hallmark of the most avant-garde hospitality design projects.
Among the most iconic spaces is the Presidential Suite, redesigned to be “even more transgressive” and capable of transforming into an impromptu dance floor. However, Antonio admits to having a special fondness for another room: “The Fashion Victim Room, a very unique space that truly embodies the brand’s DNA… it combines plastic with textiles in a harmonious way.”
New spaces reflecting 2025 hotel design trends
The redesign also introduced a new gym, conceived as a “very Instagrammable” space, where mirror reflections and morning light accompany the guest’s experience. This type of environment aligns with 2025 hotel design trends, which emphasize the integration of well-being, aesthetics, and connection with nature.
This project by U Interior Design strengthens the studio’s presence in the luxury hospitality design sector and consolidates its innovative approach to interior design, where every detail expresses the brand’s identity.
Contract design and a creative philosophy
Beyond the final result, both Laura and Antonio agree that the most valuable part was the shared creative process. As they mentioned in the podcast: “In the end, we’re all idea machines, and each of us brings our own kind of madness.” That “controlled madness” is the essence of U Interior Design’s teamwork — a methodology that embodies the values of contemporary contract interior design: collaboration, innovation, and emotion.
“Everything is possible”: a vision that inspires design
The conversation between Laura and Antonio concluded with a phrase that perfectly sums up the studio’s philosophy: “Everything is possible.” It’s a declaration that reflects not only their attitude toward design challenges but also their vision of creating spaces that speak, that move and connect with people.
The interior design project at The Unexpected Ibiza Hotel thus becomes a benchmark in luxury hospitality design, an example of how creativity and technical expertise can transform spaces into memorable experiences.
