Few challenges are as stimulating in the world of interior design as working in a hotel space where every square meter must convey identity, functionality, and a clear concept.
In one of the episodes of our Espacios que Hablan podcast, Laura Huerta spoke with Antonio Guillamón about one of our most emblematic hotel interior design projects: the transformation of The Unexpected Ibiza Hotel.
During the interview, they explored the project’s challenges and discoveries, especially in those rooms which, despite their reduced size, had to encapsulate the brand’s DNA and stand out within the island’s luxury hotel interior design landscape. Ibiza—with its singular style and strong visual identity—demanded an interior design proposal that balanced aesthetics and sensory experience, aligned with current hotel interior design trends and a clear contract design approach for contemporary hospitality.
The “Fashion Victim” Room: A Small-Scale Design Icon
When Laura asked Antonio which part of the project had been his favorite, he didn’t hesitate: “We’ve connected a gym, a Hell’s Kitchen, we’ve done many things, but above all there’s one part—the Fashion Victim room, which is a very, very cool, very unique room that truly represents the brand’s DNA.”
The Fashion Victim room thus becomes a masterful exercise in conceptual synthesis. Laura summarizes it perfectly: “In such a small space it has all the attributes of the brand, right? Which is always so difficult. It’s a very compact room and it encompasses everything.”
This type of design, which demands a deep understanding of brand storytelling, reflects what is valued today in interior design for hospitality: immersive environments capable of communicating a clear identity from the very first impression.
Antonio adds a key nuance about the materiality of the space: “Yes, it’s harmonious—I mean, plastics blend with textiles. And you can’t tell what’s what.” This tactile and visual ambiguity not only brings innovation but also aligns with the current pursuit of multisensory experiences in boutique hotels and creative resorts.
Laura highlights another memorable element: “It’s very playful. And with the mirrors, that spectacular shower…” And Antonio rounds it off with a statement that speaks for itself: “I would stay in that room—it’s like it has everything in a small space.”
The Presidential Suite: A Refuge Where Luxury Breathes
Although the Fashion Victim room is a conceptual gem, Laura admits her personal favorite: “Well, I’m a huge fan of the presidential; I have to say my favorite part of the project is, by far, the presidential room.”
The presidential suite reflects the most sophisticated side of the project, aligning with the current trend of creating distinct spaces within the same hotel that broaden the guest’s experiential range and add value to the property’s positioning.
