The unique identity of “Sunset Biscuit”: a commitment to character and form at Casa Decor

In the space we designed this year for Suministros Ibiza at Casa Decor, the flooring became one of the key elements in creating a setting with an unmistakable personality. The “Sunset Biscuit” floor—an unconventional and attention-grabbing choice both in name and design—takes centre stage in this excerpt from our podcast Espacios que Hablan.

In this episode, Laura Huerta, Interior Design Director at U Interior Design, speaks with Álvaro Piña Serrano, Commercial Director at Suministros Ibiza, about the creative and technical process behind this truly unique floor—from selecting the colours to defining the shape. “Well, it was especially fun, wasn’t it? When we were choosing the colours…” says Laura with a smile, recalling one of the most creative phases of the project. Naming the product was no less of a delight, a seemingly anecdotal decision that nonetheless contributed to its identity. As Álvaro adds playfully: “Yes, yes, it’s always fun. And the name, of course.”

One of the most distinctive features of the Sunset Biscuit is its shape, which completely breaks away from conventional formats. This isn’t just a decorative piece—it’s a floor that defies expectations and adds a theatrical sense of character to the space. “Well, it’s the use of the whimsical shape that gives it that special character,” Laura explains, highlighting how geometry helps create a unique atmosphere.

The design made such an impact that even in the production workshop, the technicians responded with a mixture of confusion and disbelief. Álvaro recalls with a laugh their initial reactions: “In the production workshop they were saying, ‘Hang on, what are you going to do with this?’ ‘Why have you used a waterjet…?’ ‘What’s this for?’ People couldn’t imagine this would end up being a floor.” That initial surprise turned into uncertainty when the first pieces arrived. Laura remembers the moment fondly: “And well, when the first pieces arrived, didn’t you have them there too? You sent me a photo like: ‘well…’” To which Álvaro responds with humour: “Well, yes, yes—it was very varied, but in the end, everything turned out great.”

The Sunset Biscuit has stood out not only for its design and craftsmanship but also for the emotional connection it has sparked with Casa Decor visitors. Many remember it and refer to it fondly by its more colloquial nickname: “the biscuit floor.” It’s a perfect example of how thoughtful design doesn’t just decorate—it leaves a lasting impression.

Collaborations like the one between U Interior Design and Suministros Ibiza demonstrate how innovation in interior design is fuelled by dialogue between creativity, technique, and boldness. The Sunset Biscuit is the result of a process that embraces experimentation and transforms the unexpected into something truly memorable.
