In the first episode of Espacios que hablan by U Interior Design, hosted by Laura Huerta, Director of Interior Design at U Interior Design, essential issues about hotel design and its relationship with the local environment were addressed. With the participation of Llanos Espinosa, Investment and Hotel Operators Consultant, the conversation revealed valuable keys for those seeking to connect interior design with the cultural identity of each space.
One of the main themes that emerged was the relevance of collaborative work. Llanos Espinosa mentioned how working together with construction companies, who contribute their experience and knowledge, is fundamental to the success of a hotel project, highlighting the need to involve professionals from different areas in order to achieve optimal results.
One of the points that Llanos Espinosa defended most passionately was the role that local culture plays in hotel design. In her opinion, the interior designer must design each hotel in line with the geographical location and cultural identity of the area: ‘I think it is very enriching to bring part of the local culture into the hotel,’ she said, stressing the importance of incorporating local cultural elements, which not only enhances the guest experience, but also helps to create a more interesting and authentic product.
The conversation also included more personal moments, such as the experience the two shared during the pandemic, while working on a 500-room hotel repositioning project in Sicily. Llanos Espinosa recalled how, despite the global uncertainty, the team kept up their spirits and motivation to continue the work on site.
The first episode of Espacios que Hablan by U Interior Design invites us to reflect on the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the impact of local culture on hotel design.
