In the latest episode of our podcast “Espacios que Hablan” dedicated to interior design enthusiasts with a focus on hospitality and restaurants, Laura Huerta speaks with Laura Pérez and Antonio Guillamón, both senior interior designers at U Interior Design, about their participation in Casa Decor 2025, one of Spain’s leading interior design showcases.
Casa Decor: the ultimate interior design runway
For the team, participating in Casa Decor meant stepping onto “the runway — the most relevant platform for interior design projects in the country.” It was an environment where they were able to explore their most conceptual side without losing their hospitality-driven DNA.
The space, developed in collaboration with Suministros Ibiza and La Piedra de Ibiza, began with a clear challenge: integrating stone as the main feature within a building constrained by structural limitations. Antonio explains this from a personal perspective tied to the island: “Living in Ibiza and having spent so much of my life there, it meant a lot to bring that part of the island to Casa Decor.”
That essence translated into a sensory experience inspired by the Ibizan sunset, combining materiality and emotion. As Laura Pérez explains: “To balance out the heaviness of stone as a material, we began selecting textiles and metallic elements to create equilibrium within the overall composition.”
True sustainability in contract interior design
One of the project’s most distinctive aspects was its focus on tangible sustainability, applied to contract interior design through material honesty. Rather than treating sustainability as a superficial concept, the team chose to work with materials typically discarded in quarries.
The public’s reaction was revealing: “People would say, ‘How can something so beautiful and aesthetic usually end up as waste?’” This duality between aesthetics and reuse reinforced the space’s narrative and connected directly with emerging hospitality interior design trends, where experience and material awareness coexist.
The award moment
The highlight came with the award for Best Original Design for the “Sunset Biscuit” flooring. The surprise was absolute. Antonio recalls: “We never thought we would win any award. I couldn’t believe it — I was completely shocked.”
Amid exchanged glances and contained emotion, the team experienced a recognition that further solidified their positioning within the hospitality-focused interior design sector.
Experience as the new luxury
Beyond the award, the episode offers a key reflection on the evolution of contemporary design. As mentioned in the podcast, the industry has shifted “from an obsession with luxury to an obsession with experience.” Today, a hotel lobby is no longer merely a functional space, but an emotional stage where lighting, materiality, and storytelling come together to create lasting memories.
This episode of “Espacios que Hablan” not only revisits a successful project at Casa Decor 2025, but also reaffirms U Interior Design’s identity as a studio specialized in hospitality interior design projects, where creativity, genuine sustainability, and sensory experience define the present — and future — of international hotel design.
